I’m writing today to ask you to consider contributing to an organization that’s making a difference every day in the lives of children. It’s probably made a difference in the lives of children you know.
I’m talking about The Children’s Music Network. This year, I completed seven years of service on the CMN Board, two as President. I’m proud I gave so much time and energy to this organization, because though it’s small, it’s doing what I consider to be absolutely essential work across the United States and beyond. CMN is an energizing force for bringing the positive power of music into the lives of children everywhere. You can donate now by clicking here.
CMN was there when I began singing with kids at my local library back in the late 1990s. CMN members advised me on how to make my first CD and cheered me on when it was done, though they barely knew me. Through CMN, I was able to get to know other children’s singers in my local area. Those were valuable connections for finding free-lance jobs and developing my craft.
Years later, my work has greatly expanded and I’m now a full time performer and teaching artist. As I go to work in the greater Boston area – whether it’s traveling to Horizons for Homeless Children, the Boston Public Schools, or any one of a number of local preschools and libraries – I’m constantly reminded of how CMN has helped make me a better musician and educator. I’ve received so many ideas, great songs and encouragement from CMN colleagues who are now lifelong friends. Want to donate? Click here.
All of that in turn has a positive impact on each of the thousands of children with whom I’ve had the privilege of sharing music.
When I left the CMN Board, I made a commitment to raise $1,000 from my circle of friends to help expand CMN’s work. If you have seen the smiles on children’s faces when they hear a favorite song, you know the difference music can make. It’s why I do what I do.
Are you still reading? THANKS! Now please join me in meeting my fundraising goal this fall. You’ll be glad you did. If you give in response to this piece, please put my name in the notes on CMN’s donation page.
